Hello and welcome to this the very first blogpost of Chilham Parish Council.

With the lockdown period from March until August and the continuing risk of COVID 19, face to face meetings for the parish council have not been possible, yet despite these challenges the council have continued to meet monthly via the use of Zoom.
For those of you who have attended these meetings, you will be aware of a new 30 minute open forum for members of the public to raise their concerns directly with the whole council, prior to the full monthly council meeting taking place. I am very pleased to say that we have had far more parishioners attending these online meetings than have ever attended the monthly face to face meetings prior to lockdown.
The past five months have been extremely busy for the five remaining members of the Parish Council.
We have made vast improvements in the way in which the day to day administration of the council takes place, with the introduction of a new accounting system, which is being successfully used by many parish councils. In addition, we have finally moved into the current century with the adoption of online banking. This leap makes paying suppliers and managing our banking commitments much more efficient and no longer requires the laborious task of hand writing and sending out manual cheques.
Following the resignation of the previous Clerk, the Parish Council engaged a new Locum who has taken on such a lot at very short notice, and who has excelled in the dedication and service shown to our Parish and to us as Councillors. We are delighted to report that Caroline has now agreed and been appointed as our permanent Clerk. Caroline has proven to be a real asset to Chilham Parish Council in the past months and we welcome her formally to the role.
